When my kids were young, I would often take them to the Ancient Playground near our apartment in New York City.

Built next to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the playground’s designer built non-traditional structures instead of swing sets – pyramids, an obelisk, and a sundial – to evoke an ancient city.

Ancient structures always have a curious quality to them, provoking wonder and reverence because they’ve endured. My kids spent hours at a time there, jumping from one structure to the next, hiding from each other and from me, seeing the city from new perspectives.
